Located between the two mountains of Velence and Buda, Etyek Wine Region covers an area of 5600 hectares but the vine plantation is about 1600 hectares nowadays. Vine growing and winemaking has always been the most important field of activity in the region since the 11th century. The development of wine culture has been influenced by various nationalities settling in the region. They brought their own winemaking tradition, planted different grape varieties. It is one of the reasons why wineries offer such a diversified portfolio here.
What can you expect?
As Hungary have 22 wine regions, you may pick and choose. I choose a region which is close to Budapest, which can be done in a half a day tour: Etyek wine region. Mainly famous for its white wines, although red wines are getting more and more popular too. We visit a few wineries in an incredibly picturuesque environment.
